The detention sites located on the map below provide a partial listing of information from the Global Detention Project's database of detention sites, which we plan to make available in the future. This map does not necessarily provide a comprehensive list of sites currently in operation in a given country, nor does the map provide information about ad hoc sites of detention that do not appear to be regularly used to hold non-citizens in administrative detention. Also, please note that although project researchers endeavour to provide as up-to-date information as possible, sources of information are quickly outdated and frequently contradictory . This map should thus not be viewed as evidence that a particular site remains in service or that the information about the sites is currently valid.

Unless the physical address of a detention site is specifically mentioned in the pop-up window for the site in question, the precise location of the site as specified by the logo when you zoom in is NOT correct. In these cases the logo is provided only to specify the approximate location of the detention facility.
