Established in 2006 with funds from Spain’s Agency for International Cooperation for Development, the Nouadhibou Reception Centre was located in a former school–with classrooms converted into cells. The facility was plagued by reports of abuse, overcrowding, and terrible hygiene conditions, and was closed in 2012. According to reports we have received and seen since then, the centre remains closed (as of 2025).
