ABOUT

The Italian Migrant Processing Centre located at Albania's Port Shengjin is one of two offsite detention sites that began operating in October 2024 with the aim of providing "temporary shelter" for asylum seekers transferred from detention centres in Italy while their asylum claims are processed. Italy finances operations at the sites, which are under Italian legal jurisdiction, while Albania provides the external security.
