"A number of residents at the Joutseno detention unit are on hunger strike, a spokesperson for the Finnish Immigration Service Migri has confirmed to Yle. ... According to IL, the residents are protesting over both the quality and the quantity of the food served at the centre. One resident told the paper they only receive two meals a day and are unable to supplement this diet with their own purchases — as the selection at the unit is very limited. ... In addition to the protest over the food at Joutseno, residents are also reportedly unhappy with the duration of visiting hours. "Visits are basically limited to three hours. The facilities do not allow for overnight visits by family members," Nurmi said. One resident however told Iltalehti that this is not a sufficient amount of time, especially as the resident's visitors often travel long distances to see them.
