The first Lesquin detention center, opened in 1984 with 39 places, offered extremely harsh conditions before being replaced in 2006 by a new 96‑place facility, later expanded to 116 places and now reserved exclusively for men. This second center also contains France’s only high‑security zone for people linked to terrorism cases, where individuals can be held in isolation for up to 210 days.
